Green Building

It is our intent at Woodridge Custom Builders LLC to provide our custom homebuyers with energy efficient homes using sustainable products.  During the planning stages of a home we work with the customer, home designer, and engineer to integrate the most superior options for efficiency and comfort.

Some of our custom homebuyers want us to include as many energy efficient strategies as possible when building their home, while others choose specific strategies that they are most comfortable with.  Some of the features included in our custom home residences for improving energy efficiency and comfort are outlined below.

Energy Efficiency

  1. HVAC – Trane Air-Conditioning Units with a minimum of 13 SEER, often 16
  2. Solar Panels – Installing Eagle Solar Roof panels, these tiles integrate seamlessly with a home’s roof tiles.  The advantages include:
  • Significant federal and state tax rebates and tax incentives for their use
  • Bank extra power with the local utility company
  • Substantially reduce monthly energy bills
  • Increase resale value of property
  • Quiet and reliable power generation
  • Provides safe and sustainable energy to the home

 Insulation

  • R19 Blown cellulose in the exterior walls, a wet insulation is blown into the exterior walls and fill cavities to protect the interior of the home from extreme temperature variations.
  • Fully insulate plumbing lines to increase efficiency and prevent damage during the backfilling process
  • Wrapping a moisture and air barrier helping to maintain dry walls and maintain R-value.
  • R 38 BATT insulation at the roof deck reducing the heat that gets to the attic.  This also eliminates the need for roof venting, often a source of roof water penetration.
  • Foam base plate all penetrations to increase efficiency.
  • Using double ply 90/30 lb roof paper for extra protection.
  • Installing TechShield® Radiant Heat Barrier in the roof sheathing, minimizing the heat that is transferred from the exterior of the home to the attic.

Water Use

Installing hot water recirculation throughout the home allows immediate warm water for showers reducing the need to purge the system of cold water before hot water arrives to the faucet and wasting this cold water.  These must be used wisely and set on timers to get the most benefit.
