MASTER BEDROOM COLOR IDEAS… FORGET THE BRIGHT BOLD COLORS

Color, Color, Color… Make a Soft Color Statement in the Master Bedroom

Choosing colors for various rooms of a home can be intimidating to say the least.  As AZ custom home builders, more often than not, our customers choose one color for the walls and a complimentary color for the ceiling, trim and doors, if doors are paint grade.   This sets the stage for adding complimentary colors later, perhaps after living in the space for awhile to get ideas, or having a professional designer help out with colors.

We often see magazines and designers that encourage bright, bold colors for entry foyers or small powder rooms.  On the other hand, for master bedroom color ideas, the color palette best selected might be soft, soothing and neutral.  Since our eyes follow color, for consistency choose one or two colors already used in the home.  Putting the neutral color on the wall and accenting with the second color, possibly a slightly bolder color on an accent wall.  The accent color can be added to pillows for the bed or a pair of chairs located in the room.  Soothing on the eye is the best strategy here, you’re trying to create at atmosphere the offers calm and peace feelings, someplace easy to relax and sleep.

When searching for master bedroom color ideas, going for a clean but comfortable look is one strategy.  You can choose a soft color from the comforter you plan to use, for example.  Yet, the wall color is only one color element in a master bedroom.  There are other color elements to consider such as complimentary fabric colors, a pale palette of silk and linen, favoring texture over pattern will add a luxurious feel to nearly any bedroom.  Prohibit geometric patterns in a master bedroom, unless you’re want to feel confused upon entering the room or feel as though you just entered an off-road motel with a geometric bedspread and matching curtains with valance.  Using light, airy fabrics as opposed to heavy damask or velvets also add a subtle elegance without a heavy formal feeling.

Whatever master bedroom color ideas you finally go with, remind yourself to be honest.  Ask yourself if these are colors and fabrics that you really like, if you can live with these colors.  Your home should reflect what you are and how you feel, not be decorated for a magazine or to someone else’s taste and style.
