Kitchen Cabinets Design… Why Over Spend on Door Knobs, Pulls and Handles?

Planning, designing, building a new custom home kitchen or undertaking a kitchen remodeling project, custom kitchen designs can quickly become a pricey endeavor. As builders of Arizona luxury custom homes, it is very common to need hundreds of cabinet door knobs, handles, and pulls for kitchen cabinetry, bathroom cabinetry, and other rooms with kitchen cabinetry such as a home office, wet bar, hobby room, or guest quarters. Selection of cabinet door knobs is usually done at the time the custom home buyer meets with the cabinet maker and selects a cabinet style, cabinet wood and cabinet color, stain or glaze. Most customers choose each of these cabinet features that are consistent with the home’s style. Cabinet doorknobs are also selected to match a home’s style whether the custom home kitchen is planned as an ‘Old-World’ style, traditional or contemporary kitchen style.

Custom kitchen designs can be simple with individual appliances to large multi-cook kitchens multiple ovens, dishwashers and other appliances. Kitchen cabinet doorknobs, handles and pulls are no different. Kitchen cabinet knobs can be inexpensive, moderate, and pricey, to simply outrageous. It’s true in our experience as AZ custom home builders, there are customers that disregard the individual prices of cabinet doorknobs, but this is the exception rather than the rule. In this economy it is truly chic to be cheap, and more often than not, our custom home buyers want style, beauty, and durability at a great price.

Imagine that a typical custom home kitchen may have ninety (90) kitchen cabinet doorknobs. A custom home kitchen with multiple kitchen islands, plenty of drawers, and specialty cabinets, ninety kitchen cabinet doorknobs, handles, or pulls is not unusual. A custom bathroom vanity in a secondary bedroom for example, may require 11 if there is a standard drawer below the sink, two cabinet doors below that and two banks of four drawers. Imagine then, the wet bar area, a home office with built-in cabinets, a laundry room with kitchen cabinet storage, a hobby room or other specialty room, you’re into hundreds of cabinet door knobs at this point.

The prices for cabinet doorknobs, handles and pulls can vary greatly. Cabinet door knobs can range from a few bucks to more than twenty dollars a knob, handle or pull. Considering that a custom home kitchen may have a hundred knobs, it’s understandable why ‘cheap is chic’. The photos below highlight different manufacturer’s four-inch handle pulls in a very similar style. These are shown with different finishes from antique copper, black matte, rust, and oil rubbed bronze. They range from a sale price from around $4 with the highest offered for $11. For one hundred doorknobs for a custom home kitchen for example, that ranges from four hundred dollars to eleven hundred dollars. With practical doorknob selections, custom kitchen designs and kitchen remodeling projects do not have to break the bank.
