The New Black in Custom Kitchens, and its NOT Black Lacquer!
As AZ custom homebuilders, our customers want their homes to reflect their individual taste and style. Black has become popular in custom kitchens of late, though this is not the black lacquer of the 80’s, or black appliances.
As AZ custom home builders, we are seeing more and more black kitchen cabinets in the custom homes that we tour, design, or construct. Black, really, you may be asking? Black kitchen cabinets are generally used as accent pieces, for example a custom kitchen island may be done in black while the main kitchen cabinets are stained in more traditional colors. A built-in kitchen hutch in black may complement the black island, for example. Distressed finishes add to the richness that black cabinets create in a custom kitchen. Rustic hardware in combination with a distressed finish offers an “old” look so often desired in the Arizona luxury custom homes we build. Black, because it is such a dark color works well as an accent color to the traditional cabinet colors that make up the majority of the cabinet colors in these kitchens. Because black is such a heavy color, in large kitchens with high ceilings, a black kitchen island can anchor the room and pull the features together.
