GARAGES… DESIGN A ROOM FOR STORAGE!

Garage Storage Space…  Ever Elusive, Do We Ever Have Enough Space?

Most of us have stuff, stuff that we only need once in a while such as holiday decorations, luggage, lawn furniture, shovels, the lawn mower, sporting goods, or possessions we are not ready to part with.  It seems as though our homes never have enough storage for everything we have.  There are more and more garage storage companies helping us get our stuff organized. Garage storage is more than cabinets, it can include, overhead storage racks, bicycle hoists, open shelving, and wall racks.

As AZ custom home builders, we often design a room for storage, including garages.  Many of the homes we build for our customers include some kind of storage, and many times the storage is a built-in closet within the garage.  These garage closets often include built-in shelves, adequate lighting and an open area for large items like seasonal lawn furniture.  With great planning, these spaces can be designed into a floor plan of a home and easily built during construction.  Storage closets built into a garage can help keep the garage clean and free of stuff that usually collects along the walls of a garage.

If we cannot work with our customers in advance and design a room for storage, then built into a home at the time of construction, there are dozens of garage storage companies that can examine your garage, analyze the space, and the items to be stored. When planning garage storage, it makes sense to know what items need to be stored, their sizes, and how often they will accessed.  For frequently used items like a lawn mower, access should be easier than holiday items.  Professionals at garage storage companies will help you layout the best options for you.  There are so many types of storage to consider, that you may begin by asking yourself a few questions such as:

  1. Will I need cabinets, cabinets with shelves, cabinets with drawers, and possibly a workbench?  Cabinets are great for seasonal items, can contain flexible shelving at various heights, and can be locked if necessary.
  2. Will I need shelves and would I be happy with open shelving?  Open shelves are good for often-used items such as tools, tennis rackets, the kids’ sports stuff, etc.  You may need to purchase some storage bins that can be easily labeled with its contents to store more than just using the shelves open.
  3. Would I be satisfied with racks?  With various racks you can hang brooms, shovels, mops and other items flat against a wall.
  4. Could I use some hooks in some out-of-the-way areas?  Hooks can be used in out of the way areas for a few seasonal jackets, or even bicycles.
  5. Do I need ceiling lofts or ceiling mounted racks? Ceiling racks can be installed for occasionally used items, and offer great additional storage.

Professional garage storage organizers can easily design a room great for storage, and can provide dozens of ideas, and storage combinations, either with professional installation and for the do-it-yourself-er.
