CREATING COMFORTABLE OUTDOOR LIVING AREAS WHEN PLANNING A CUSTOM HOME!

The Changing Styles of Outdoor Living Areas

Outdoor furniture hasn’t just changed over the years; it has evolved.  The evolution of outdoor living areas have redefined dining patios, fire pit seating arrangements, and swimming pool lounge areas. Seating arrangements are a welcoming addition to not only outside dining and pool lounge areas, but create enjoyment for total outdoor living. Many well-accepted outdoor furnishings include; sofas, end tables, oversized chairs and even cocktail tables, each designed for recreation and relaxation.  Adding over-sized potted plants, accent pillows, and accessories enhance outdoor living spaces and transform them into truly enjoyable outdoor living areas.  These changes in outdoor furnishings have also brought about many changes in how Americans use their backyards and patios.  Outdoor furnishings offer so much more comfort and versatility than the old vinyl strapped lounge chairs or patio dining chairs of yesteryear.

As AZ custom home builders, assisting in the design and build of a custom home for the homeowner is only scratching the surface for us.  Helping the homeowner put it all together at the end is as important as the initial design.  As AZ custom home builders, these critical finishing elements clearly set us apart from other builders. Knowing how a family plans to use outdoor living spaces helps us to achieve results exactly as the homeowner intended, however meticulous planning is necessary.  Will outdoor living areas be used for small private family gatherings, large family reunions, occasional dinner parties, BBQ’s for the guy’s during NASCAR or NFL football, children’s birthday parties, or just a place to read the morning paper in the cool mornings of an Arizona day?  These are a few questions that must be covered with our customers when constructing their custom homes.  Once the uses for outdoor living areas have been identified, there are still other questions regarding patio lighting, musical components, ceiling fans, outdoor televisions, sprinkler locations for potted plants, water fountains, and surveillance cameras that are addressed as well. We gather this information during the planning stages of a custom home, so the design elements are included in every step of the construction process.  Gas lines for a BBQ grill are best plumbed in the beginning of a project, rather than at the end of home construction when some homeowners just begin thinking about outdoor living areas.  Sprinkler lines for patio-based potted plants are best installed before the patio floor is laid.  It is never too early to plan how each area of a new patio will be used and enjoyed.

Making the right decisions at the right time could make or break the appearance, functionality, style and comfort of a custom home. Family pool enjoyment, relaxing on the outdoor sofa, enjoying mountainous scenery or reading the daily news over a cup of latte in a beautiful, luxurious and relaxing outdoor living area can be achieved with proper planning.
